Thursday 25th September 2014

I have just realised that I have forgotton to add my blog for last week, probably because not much happened to excite the nerve-endings.

Monday 15th saw me back at Burwell Fen as 4 Whinchats had been reported there around the car park. Thought I could get closer to them from the car than on the previous visit. Net result - nothing.

Thusday 18th September - another trip to West Norfolk as the weather conditions looked OK for some migrants.

Started off at Holme Dunes NWT - only bird of interest was a Pied Flycatcher that refused to show for the camera so I moved to the NOA reserve next door. Another Pied Flycatcher that was more showy but no chance of getting better images that I already had so did not bother. Then a Spotted Flycatcher, rather wet and bedraggled but that did show for a time.

I then moved around a little - Brancaster Staither but too many people around although a juvenile Ringed Plover did show.

Then the weather changed in the aftternoon - a really horrible dark grey/brown light so I started to make a slow way home.

Titchwell RSPB was a waste of time as the water levels at the hide were too high for anything to come close.

Thornham where a Curlew walked under the bank next to me and thenn started to call

On the way home, I called in at Hunstanton cliffs where a Common Gull was around but that was all of passing interest.

The galling part of the day was when I got home, I went onto Birdguides and saw that I had made the wrong decision. At the back of my mind was Burnham Overy as several migrants were there but it was highly likely that they had cleared out overnight and it was a long walk  - you kmow the rest. Anyway, that morning, other photographers had been there and got Red-breasted Flycatcher, Yellow-browed Warbler, Garden Warbler,Lesser Whitethroat, Redstart etc. Well such is life!!!
