About a mile from my house on the outskirts of Cambridge are the grounds of Girton College, part of Cambridge University. The well wooded grounds have a variety of woodland birds but recently, a Firecrest has been sighted and yesterday, I thought it was time I tried to get some images although cloudy and dull.

Initially, it was very difficult to pin down, moving quickly through the trees as Fircrests do. However, by observing it, over a period, it regularly seemed to favour a yew bush relatively low down so I set up ready and waiting. Sure enough it settled and started to sing.

Later, it showed much better almost in the open allowing some clear shots through the foliage.

No further opportunity came and with the light going under the heavy cloud, it was time to go home after a short but successful couple of hours.
