Saturday 17th December 2022

This week has been the coldest this year - snow on the ground and everything frozen. But it has not been a total disaster even though I have confined my activities to bird watching in my garden.

The Cotoneaster tree was  providing food for the local Blackbird, Robin and Blue tit.

However, to the consternation of my usual residents, earlier in the week, a flock of 7 or 8 Redwings suddenly descended on the tree, attracted by the bright red berries. Redwings are members of the Thrush family and are winter visitors, normally visiting my garden during January but the cold weather brought them in early.

By the end of the week, they had polished off all the berries and moved on to my neighbours garden. Still, a very enjoyable time with my camera poking out of my bedroom window. Comfort is a real luxury for wildlife photographers.
